- about
- "Shepherd's Lullaby" was written for Christmas Eve services in 2006. It occurred to me that we don't often think about the perspective of the shepherds. We talk about Mary & Joseph and the Three Kings, but oftentimes, the shepherds remain the lowly, insignificant characters that so many would have considered them to be at the time. I think their presence at the manger is very important, so I wrote a song from their perspective. Peace on Earth and goodwill to men!
- lyrics
- Oh baby Jesus, now don't You cry.
Just lay Your head down on this bed of hay.
Go to sleep baby Jesus, rest Your infant eyes,
And let this world slowly slip away.
'Cause though You are the King of Kings,
Tonight You are just a child.
So stay here with the cows and sheep
And let me sing to You a lullaby.
Go to sleep baby Jesus, under starlight
And I will sing to You, I will sing to You.
Have peace baby Jesus, for You are heaven's child
And I will worship You, I will worship You
Baby Jesus.
This world, baby Jesus, is not an easy place. You will have trouble, toil, and pain.
And in the end, baby Jesus, You will be betrayed.
Condemned by the world You came to save.
And though I have no gift to bring,
And my sin only makes it worse.
I'll stay here in this stable bare
And offer You one more verse.
Go to sleep baby Jesus, under starlight
And I will sing to You, I will sing to You.
Have peace baby Jesus, for You are heaven's child
And I will worship You, I will worship You
Baby Jesus.
